Why is weight cutting or weight lifting important in martial arts?
There are competition rules that separate fights into different weight classes to ensure that the fights are fair and balanced. Through the process of weight making, athletes can optimally adjust body weight, so as to maximize their physical strength and endurance for their specific weight class.

Our Phantom Performance Cream, also known as Sweat Cream, is another powerful tool to help you with your weight management supported in martial arts. This specially developed cream is easy to use:
- You apply them to the desired areas of your body before your workout.
- As soon as you start your workout, the cream increases local blood flow and skin temperature, causing you to sweat more. The increased sweat production helps you gain weight because you lose excess water faster.
- For best results, we recommend combining the Performance Creme with one of our Phantom Sweat Suits. This combination maximizes the weight loss effect
Weight gain with a "salt tub"
Another method that athletes use to make weight is to lose weight in one Bathtub with salt. This home remedy is based on the principle of osmosis and can help to remove excess water retention from the body.
- First you fill a bathtub with warm water. The water should be warm enough for you to sit comfortably in without feeling uncomfortable.
- Then you give a generous amount Epsom Salt (Magnesium Sulfate) and stir the water until the salt has dissolved.
- Then, when you step into the bathtub and sit in it for about 20-30 minutes, the salt water will draw water out of your body and help you lose extra weight in the form of water.
What exactly is osmosis?
Osmosis is the process by which molecules of a substance (in this case water) move from a less concentrated solution to a more concentrated solution across a semi-permeable membrane (in this case the skin) in order to reach equilibrium.
When you sit in a warm salt bath, due to the high salt content of the bath water, there is a higher salt concentration outside of your body compared to the fluids in your body.
By the principle of osmosis is now water drawn from your body and pushed into the salty water of the bathtub to balance it out. As a result, your body loses water and thus weight.
In addition to osmosis, the warmth of the water contributes to increased sweat production, which also contributes to weight loss. The sweat that is produced due to the high water temperature is another way your body loses water since sweat is mostly made up of water.
However, it is important to remember that this radical method is primarily intended for short-term weight loss, which is why the water balance must be rebalanced quickly after the competition. Otherwise, health and performance can be permanently damaged. In addition, you should only perform this method under the supervision of a professional and pay attention to your body's signals.
