FAQs

What does the name “Rashguard” mean?

The term rash guard comes from English. “Rash” means “scratch” and “Guard” means “protection”. A rash guard is a shirt that protects you Scratches and similar injuries.

Originally from the surfing sector, it is becoming increasingly popular in martial arts to protect against minor injuries such as scratches or mat burns. Rash guard is also rarely called "Rushguard" written, which is incorrect.

What is a martial arts rash guard?

A rash guard, often called a “compression shirt” or “compression shirt”, is a tight-fitting long-sleeved or short-sleeved shirt functional material. It is elastic and offers protection against friction, abrasions and sunlight during training or competition.

Why should I wear a rashguard in martial arts?

Rash guards offer several advantages in martial arts:

  • They protect the skin from abrasions and irritation caused by close contact with the floor or other training partners.
  • They help wick away sweat and regulate body temperature.
  • In contrast to conventional Training shirts they are tight-fitting and therefore offer less attack surface during close-to-the-body training such as grappling or in the clinch.
  • If you occasionally exercise outdoors, they also offer UV protection and can reduce the risk of sunburn.

In which martial arts do you wear rash guards?

In competition, rash guards are mainly worn under the gi in amateur MMA, no-gi BJJ, grappling or even in BJJ or judo. In training, however, rash guards can be used in almost every martial art, for example MMA, wrestling, boxing, kickboxing or Muay Thai.

Since rash guards are very comfortable, you can of course also wear them during your normal fitness training, in the studio or while running.

Should I wear a long sleeve or a short sleeve rash guard?

This is purely a matter of personal preference. Long-sleeved rash guards are better suited to colder temperatures, while short-sleeved rash guards are more suitable for wearing in summer or warm weather.

Short-sleeved rash guards are also more suitable for competition because they leave the forearms free, which can be particularly advantageous when grappling. Long-sleeved rash guards, on the other hand, also cover the elbows, so there is less friction and injuries to the skin.

Many of our rashguards are available in designs to match Fight shorts, so you can coordinate your entire outfit.

How do I properly care for my rash guard?

To ensure the longevity of your rash guard, it is recommended to clean it thoroughly after each training or competition.

It is best to wash it by hand or in the machine at a low temperature. Avoid using fabric softeners or bleach.

Allow the rash guard to air dry and avoid direct sunlight to maintain the elasticity of the material.
