Welcome to the first issue of the Phantom Sports series, which in the future will always explain one sport in more detail with regard to the advantages of using the Phantom Training Mask. As a 'special feature' at the end of each article you will find interviews with our Phantom Athletes of the corresponding sport, who will tell you about their individual story with the Phantom Trainingmask and their experiences, what advantages they have achieved and let you in on it or benefit from other training tips.
Enough of the introductory words: Let's get started!!!
In today's issue of Phantom Athletes, the focus is on running, specifically long-distance. This includes all runs from 2000 meters to the marathon distance of 42.195 km. The first historically documented runs of this type took place in ancient Greece, and mentions of them can be found in Homer's great epics, the Iliad and the Odyssey. Nowadays, the most famous and prestigious long-distance event is probably the marathon, which Pierre Coubertin first introduced at the modern Olympic Games in 1896 and which is held all year round all over the world.
Physiology and provision of energy over long distances
Due to the long duration of such runs, the body is not able to guarantee the function by maintaining anaerobic lactate fermentation, as is the case with sprinting, for example. Instead, the supply of energy takes place exclusively in an aerobic way, initially via glucose oxidation, but lipolysis begins after a period of around 2 minutes, and its share of the energy supply increases continuously until it dominates after around 90 minutes of exertion, since this is where the glycogen stores are are usually exhausted.

The oxygen requirement also increases, since the lipolytic energy supply consumes significantly more O2 than glycolysis. It is not uncommon for the very aptly named "hitting the wall" phenomenon to occur from the point of sole lipolysis, which is also known in German as "man with the hammer" (and this is not about Crossfit). This manifests itself in sudden, extreme tiredness, dizziness or even loss of consciousness.
As already mentioned, the reason for this is, among other things, the sudden, significantly increased oxygen requirement or the resulting O2 deficiency, which means that the supply of energy can no longer be guaranteed.
This is also one of the points where the Phantom Trainingmask can offer a significant performance advantage. On the one hand, regular training economizes on the oxygen requirement of the respiratory muscles. The O2 consumption of these drops, which means that a larger amount of oxygen is available for glycolysis and later lipolysis. In this way, the oxidation of glucose can take place more effectively in advance, which leads to more energy and a performance boost in terms of running speed, etc. Furthermore, there is a risk of falling into an oxygen deficiency with lipolysis, i.e. literally "running against the wall". lowered. This effect is also supported by the fact that the volume of oxygen that the performance muscles are able to absorb from the blood is also increased.
Another point where the Phantom Training Mask can support you in the long-distance area is mental strength, which can be achieved through regular training. This leads to hypertrophy of the brain areas that are responsible for "persevering". As a result, demands are not only subjectively perceived as less intense, but also unusually intense loads can be sustained more easily and for a longer period of time.

This principle also applies to athletes who are already used to "biting through" because the Phantom Training Mask provides stimuli from a completely different direction than previous athletic training.
The improved resistance to fatigue on a psychophysical level also enables increased focus and concentration, even in phases of physical exhaustion. This ensures a more economical running technique, which reduces the overall energy consumption and allows performance to be maintained for longer. In addition, the risk of injuries resulting from carelessness, such as twisting or similar, decreases.
